As your Sanford Chrysler dealers, we know taking road trips with the kids can be a ton of fun. We also know that dealing with bored children while you’re in the car can make a long trip feel even longer. Even if you have a vehicle such as a Jeep® Grand Cherokee that allows everyone to ride comfortably and spread out a bit, children whining about having nothing to do can take a toll on everyone’s spirits.
If you’re planning a road trip, consider keeping your children entertained by playing one or both of these fun car games while you’re on the road:
I Spy: An oldie but a goodie, I Spy can keep even younger kids entertained for hours on end and playing it is easy. Just pick something along the road that you want your traveling companions to guess the identify of. Say, “I spy with my little eye, something,” and insert a clue after “something.” The clue you use can be the color of the object, its shape or something else. After you’ve provided a clue, everyone in your vehicle then takes turns guessing what you spied. The first person to guess what you spied correctly wins.
License Plate Game: You can print what you’ll need for this game for free in either a standard version or, for older kids, a map version. Alternatively, you can hand out pieces of paper to each of your kids which they’ll use to write down the name of the states they see on license plates. The first person to see a license plate from all fifty states wins. The advantage of using the printable map version is that it gives children the chance to see how far a given out-of-state vehicle has traveled.
