At Fields Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM Sanford we are not only highly anticipating the start of the film awards season where we see our favorite celebrities and films acknowledged, but we are also very excited about the awards given to the new 2014 models. We are so proud to report that Motor Trend has recently selected the 2014 RAM 1500 as its 2014 Truck of the Year!
The announcement was made even more special since it was made at the Chrysler Group LLC Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Michigan which happens to be the birth place of RAM trucks.
The process to determine which truck deserves this top honor from the prestigious Motor Trend is an intricate one whereby the trucks are judged on their performance on a number of grueling tasks. Here are the following exercises that they are judged on:
- Standard testing (without load): 0-60 mph and 1/4-mile acceleration, 60-0 mph braking and maximum lateral grip.
- Limit handling (without load): closed-course cornering, braking and acceleration.
- Tow/payload testing: 0-60 acceleration repeated with trailers attached (pickups) or payload secured (vans), loaded to 75 percent of each truck’s maximum rating (as equipped)
- Road looping: Highway and real-world replication.
As if that were not intense enough, all of the contending trucks then headed off to the Motor Trend headquarters to undergo further evaluation including fuel-economy testing both with state-of-the-art technology as well as by taking each vehicle on an 88 mile drive to see its real world fuel economy results.
Once all testing from every facet was completed, the judges then judged all of the contenders on six main criteria: design advancement, engineering excellence, efficiency, safety, value, and performance of intended function. And ultimately, the 2014 RAM 1500 was named the 2014 Motor Trend Truck of the Year! Pretty intense, right?
