When you think of the 2017 Dodge Charger, what comes to mind? If you’re a fan of the “Fast & Furious” movie franchise, the 1970 iteration of the vehicle with Vin Diesel behind the wheel probably pops into your head. If that’s the case, you’re not alone.
It’s been well over a decade since Vin Diesel’s character, Dom Toretto, first drove a Dodge Charger on the big screen in “The Fast and the Furious.” Many movies later, a global audience is still enjoying Toretto’s “family” as they battle bad guys, most recently in “The Fate of the Furious.” When the most recent installment of the “Fast & Furious” franchise was released earlier this year, the film enjoyed the largest worldwide opening ever.
Given Dom Toretto’s loyalty to the Dodge brand and Vin Diesel’s real-life affinity for Dodge muscle cars, it’s only natural that the global superstar is now the most recent addition to the Dodge brand’s family. Earlier this month, the Dodge brand released a series of commercials entitled “The Brotherhood of Muscle,” which features Diesel in the driver’s seat of an iconic Dodge performance car.
“Dodge and SRT vehicles have an attitude and presence that provide their owners with much more than just transportation,” said Tim Kuniskis, Head of Passenger Car Brands – Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT, FCA – North America. “Customers who choose to purchase a Dodge [car] from among nearly 300 available vehicle nameplates intentionally do so to make a personal statement. As Dom Toretto, Vin has played an integral part in the development of the Dodge attitude, since his 1970 [Dodge] Charger appeared in ‘The Fast and the Furious.’ It is very fitting to now have Vin become an official member of the Dodge brand family.”
“Ever since ‘The Fast and the Furious’ began, my favorite has been the 1970 Dodge Charger,” Diesel said. “As [the] Dodge [brand] is a partner in making the ‘Fast & Furious’ films, I’ve gotten to know what they stand for … as well as their passion for creating high-performance cars…They’re bringing muscle back the right way and these are my kind of cars.”
